The grass is the only part of a padel court that wears out with play. The steel structure lasts decades, the tempered glass lasts decades, but the surface fiber takes every footfall, every slide and every hour of sun. There comes a point where renewing the turf isn't a luxury — it's what returns the court to competition condition without touching anything else on the installation.
Orion XSport sells padel turf separately — for re-turfing existing courts, replacement, or projects where only the surface is needed. And it isn't a generic: it's the same turf we fit as standard across the panoramic range. Padel Turf Curly TOP QUALITY, Dtex 13.500, polyurethane backing, $2,900 FOB per full court set (approximately 205 m², ~$14/m²).
This guide covers when re-turfing is due, which turf quality to choose, what a standalone set includes and what it doesn't — because knowing you're buying the surface and not the whole court avoids the most common misunderstanding of this purchase.
When to replace a padel court's grass
Re-turfing a court is typically due after 4 to 8 years of play. The range is wide because it depends on three factors:
- Hours of play. A club court running 12 hours a day wears the fiber down far sooner than a residential amenity used only at weekends.
- Exposure. Sun and outdoor abrasion age the fiber faster than indoor use.
- Maintenance. Regular brushing and topping up the silica sand extend the service life; the absence of maintenance shortens it.
The signs a court needs re-turfing are concrete: the fiber flattens and stops recovering, the ball bounce turns irregular, bald patches appear on the high-traffic lines (the back, the net area) and the color fades. When that happens, the surface stops performing at play level even though the structure is still perfect — and renewing only the turf is far cheaper than replacing the court.
The two padel turf qualities
Orion makes two Padel Turf Curly qualities. Both are 12mm pile height and both work for re-turfing; the difference is in the fiber and the backing.
| TOP QUALITY | CLUB QUALITY | |
|---|---|---|
| Dtex | 13.500 | 10.000 |
| Backing | Polyurethane (PU) | SBR latex |
| Pile height | 12mm textured | 12mm monofilament |
| Density | 46,200 turfs/m² | 52,500 turfs/m² |
| Fitted as standard on | Apex Superpanoramic · Crest Panoramic · Arc Panoramic · Classic Court · Anti Hurricane · Shelter | Debut Panoramic |
| Price | $2,900 FOB per court set (~205 m²) | $2,200 FOB per court set (~205 m²) |
Dtex measures the thickness of the fiber: 13.500 is a more robust fiber, with greater resistance to flattening over time. It's the turf we fit as standard across the entire panoramic and competition range. The polyurethane (PU) backing is the base that holds the fiber; PU offers better dimensional stability and durability than the SBR latex of the CLUB QUALITY.
The important message for anyone renewing: the TOP QUALITY you buy on its own is exactly the same turf a brand-new Apex Superpanoramic would carry. Renewing the surface doesn't mean stepping down a tier — you get the same quality as the factory court.
What a turf set includes and what it doesn't
Padel turf is sold per complete court set — one set covers the ~205 m² of a FIP 20×10m padel court. It is not a complete court. The standalone turf set does not include:
- The glass, steel, columns or mesh structure
- The LED lighting
- The posts, the net or the court lines
- The silica sand infill or the sub-base
It's worth stating clearly because some buyers arrive looking to renew "the court" when what they need is only the surface. If your structure is in good shape — which is usually the case, because steel and glass outlast the fiber by a wide margin — a re-turf is exactly that: the new roll of turf to lay over the existing base. If what you need is a whole court, that starts with the Arc Panoramic, Apex Superpanoramic or Classic Court, where the turf is already included.
A note on price: the FOB prices in this line are for standalone sale — replacement, re-turf or project. They do not change the price of a complete court, which already carries the standard turf in its specification.
Re-turf without switching supplier
For a club already running Orion courts, re-turfing has a concrete advantage: you renew the surface with the original turf, not a generic from another source. Same fiber, same backing, same bounce behavior — the renewed court plays like the day it opened, and every court in the club keeps a consistent response.
For a club with courts from another manufacturer, the TOP QUALITY is equally a re-turf option: it's a high-end fiber at factory-direct pricing, and the set covers the standard surface of a FIP court.
Beyond padel: the full turf line
The same production line makes turf for other uses, quoted per m²:
| Product | Use | FOB price |
|---|---|---|
| Football Tour (FIFA quality) | Football — 50mm, 3D fiber | $9/m² |
| Noon Fille Football | Football — 3/8", straight + fibrillated | $16/m² |
| Decorative | Landscaping — 25mm | $6/m² |
| Decorative wall (forest) | Green wall — 50×50cm panels | $10/m² |
Unlike padel turf (sold per court set), these lines are quoted per square metre, because football, landscaping and green-wall surfaces don't have a single standard size. One supplier covers padel, football in two qualities, decorative grass and green wall.
Certification
The standard Padel Turf Curly meets ASTM D2859 — the flammability test for textile surfaces. It's the certification that applies to the padel line. For the football and decorative lines, confirm the applicable certification scope when specifying your project.
Installation: we don't do it, but we support it
Laying the turf is done by your team or your local contractor — we don't install. But we always support the project: we send a detailed installation plan, base-preparation and silica-sand guidance, and we answer any technical questions during the process. A well-executed re-turf is a clean operation: remove the old fiber, prepare the base, lay the new roll and top up the sand.
On timelines: the number of days we quote is production, not delivery. We manufacture the set and leave it ready to load; transit time to destination depends on shipping and isn't promised as an installation date.
Use case: a club renewing four courts
A club that opened six years ago has four panoramic courts with the fiber flattened at the backs and the bounce now irregular. The structure, the glass and the LEDs are perfect — only the grass has reached the end of its service life.
Instead of replacing the courts, the club orders four sets of Padel Turf Curly TOP QUALITY for re-turfing. It receives the same Dtex 13.500 turf we fit as standard, with our installation plan. Its contractor removes the old fiber, lays the new rolls and tops up the sand. The four courts return to as-new condition at a fraction of the cost of new courts, with an identical surface across all four.

FAQ
How often does a padel court's grass need replacing?
Typically after 4–8 years of play. It depends on hours of play, sun exposure and maintenance (brushing and sand top-ups). The signs are flattened fiber, irregular bounce and bald patches in the high-traffic areas.
Is standalone turf a complete court?
No. It's the surface. A Padel Turf Curly set covers the ~205 m² of a FIP 20×10m court, but doesn't include structure, glass, LEDs, posts or net. If you need the whole court, that's the padel models, where the turf is already included.
Is the re-turf grass the same as on a new court?
Yes. The TOP QUALITY (Dtex 13.500, PU backing) is exactly the turf we fit as standard on the panoramic and competition range. Renewing doesn't mean lower quality.
Why is padel turf sold per set and not per m²?
Because a FIP padel court has a standard size (~205 m²) and the set is cut and prepared for that surface. Football, decorative and wall turf are quoted per m² because those surfaces don't have a single size.
Do you install the turf?
We don't lay it, but we support the project: we send an installation plan, base and sand guidance, and answer technical questions. The work is done by your team or local contractor.
What certification does the padel turf carry?
ASTM D2859 (flammability of textile surfaces), applicable to the padel line.
